Political Action and Legislation
Sprinkler Fitters Local Union No. 536 and its Signatory Contractors are committed to providing the highest quality service and craftsmanship to their customers. Through our combined emphasis on journeymen and apprentice training, we strive to fulfill our commitment of excellence by providing a knowledgeable and productive workforce to handle all your fire protection needs. Our cooperative labor/management relationship extends to promoting industry standards, code enforcement, and legislation to ensure quality installation.
Local 536 former Business Manager Robert L. Fique, Jr., authored and was directly responsible for the passage of three state laws requiring the installation of sprinkler systems in high-rise buildings, care facilities, and hazardous buildings.
Local 536 current Business Manager, Robert C. Fique was appointed by the State Fire Prevention Commission to a committee to author the regulation to license fire sprinkler contractors within the state of Maryland. Currently Local 536 in conjunction with our fellow sprinkler fitter locals continue to work on the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act, S582 and HR1742 in Washington, D.C. This important legislation would allow a property owner who retrofitted their facility to write this capital improvement off of their taxes over five years instead of the current thirty-year period.
